This work uses the melody of the Internationale composed and published in 1888 in France, thus published before July 1, 1909 outside the United States, by Pierre Degeyter (1848-1932). The melody is in the public domain in the United States and those countries and areas with a copyright term of life of the author plus 75 years or less.
 However, the melody by Pierre Degeyter is or may be copyrighted in:
- Colombia until 2013 (life + 80 years)
- Mexico until 2033 (life + 100 years without accepting the rule of the shorter term)
