Wikipedia:IRC channel guidelines

Long Wikipedia

Welcome[edit source]

This page documents the basic channel guidelines for #wikipedia-tpi on the Freenode IRC Network. It will be translated into Tok Pisin as soon as possible.

Tok Pisin Wikipedia now has its own IRC channel, where you can communicate and discuss local Wikipedia issues in English or Tok Pisin. However, you need to follow some basic guidelines for communicating there:

Please:

Be polite, civil and friendly where possible. Arguments create a bad feeling sometimes, and this is not the intention of the channel.

Remember that you are welcome to chat, but the main purpose of the channel is to co-ordinate and discuss this Wikipedia.

Above all, be welcoming. New people using the channel may be a little nervous and unsure of what they're supposed to do. If you are familiar with IRC, please help them and give them the chance to learn too.

Please try not to:

Swear or use abusive language

Discuss drugs or drug taking, sexual behaviour or anything like that.

Use language which will offend people based on their religion, culture or gender. We're Wikipedians - that makes us all equal.

Remember please, that the above guidelines are meant to set a friendly atmosphere for the channel, since we will sometimes get children there, and it's supposed to keep the channel free of things you wouldn't discuss around them.

Thanks, and we hope you enjoy the channel!
